Herbs to reduce acne and acne scars

Acne or pimples develops when the hair follicles on the face, chest or back are clogged with oil and dead skin. Each pore is connected to a sebaceous gland, which produces an oily substance called sebum. Extra sebum can plug up pores, causing the growth of a bacteria.

Makeup is a temporary solution as it can only camouflage, not cure your skin problems. Using cheap or bad quality cosmetic products can make your skin greasy and further aggravate the problem. One of the easiest ways to get rid of pimples is to stick to natural home remedies as they are safe and reliable and don’t burn a hole in your pocket.

Neem, basil, coriander and mint face mask helps your skin get rid of the daily build-up of toxins underneath your skin and at the same time get rid of bacteria, germs and dirt embedded in your skin to give it a natural glow.

Things Required:

  • Holy basil(tulsi) 
  • Coriander 
  • Neem
  • Mint

How To:

  • Take a handful of holy basil, coriander, neem leaves and mint all in equal amounts, feed it to the juicer/mixer.
  • And grid it to a paste-like consistency, then transfer this mixture to a bowl.
  • Apply the mixture on the affected area and leave it in for a good 15 minutes then rinse with clean cold water.

For better results, follow this method twice a week.

Why it Works:

Basil which has immense benefits for our skin. Basil contains essential volatile oils like cinnamate, citronellol, geraniol, linalool, pinene, terpineol, etc., which contribute to its strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidepressive properties, which reduces acne and acne scars. Next is coriander, it is a powerhouse of iron, antioxidants and Vitamin C.

Coriander juice works like magic for acne or oily skin. It is a detoxifier, a disinfectant and even treats dark lips.

The other magical ingredient in this mask is mint, the strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of mint leaves prevent inflammation and cure acne. Applying mint leaves paste on the acne, dries up, eliminates acne scars and cleanses the pores.

The last and powerful ingredient is neem leaves the antibacterial properties of neem help a great deal in keeping a check on breakouts like acne, pimples and black/whiteheads. It also helps in clearing excess oil and dirt from deep within the skin pores.

  • Sweet flag root  – one-inch piece

How To:

  • Take A handful of sweet basil(thiruneetru pachilai), feed it to the juicer/mixer with the sweet flag(vasambu).
  • And grid it to a paste-like consistency, then transfer this mixture to a bowl.
  • Apply the mixture on the affected area and leave it in for a good 20 minutes then rinse with clean cold water.

For better results, follow this method every night before bed.

  • Buttermilk – two tablespoons

  • Apply the mixture on your skin and leave it in for an hour then rinse with clean cold water.

Get rid of pimples using Nutmeg

  • Sandalwood powder
  • Nutmeg

How To:

  • Crush nutmeg and make it into a powdered form.
  • Add sandal to it and mix it well with water.
  • Apply the mixture overnight in your face and wash it off in the morning.

Using this remedy twice a week, you can get rid of the pimples and acne.

Why it Works:

Sandalwood is a natural antiseptic and preservative used in the production of soaps, beauty creams, and others. Sandalwood, popularly known as Chandan in India, has also often been mentioned in the Ayurveda as a natural healer.

Regular use of the antibacterial Sandalwood powder helps in fighting acne-causing bacteria, exfoliates the skin, soothes sunburn, removes suntan, and reduces signs of ageing such as dry skin wrinkles.
