Homemade Shampoo using Shikakai, Reetha and Orange Peel

July 18, 2020 by sharvayonibeauty Leave a Comment

Shampoo and conditioners can contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals that add to the toxic load in your body. For more than thousands of years, people in India have mostly used various fruits, barks, stems, seeds, and leaves to make their homemade shampoo. The Homemade shampoo can make at home at your leisure containing natural and accessible ingredients. It smells great and leaves your hair feeling strong and soft.

Things Required:

  • Shikakai powder – 10 grams
  • Reetha berry – 10 grams
  • Olive powder – 5 grams
  • Orange peel or Lemon peel

How To:

  • Take all herbs in a pan, add 750 ml of water and let them soak for about 8 hours.
  • Heat the mix till it starts to boil, reduce the flame slightly and let it simmer for 5-15 minutes.
  • The longer you cook, the more concentrated it will become. (Add more water if you wish).
  • Off the stove, cover, and let it cool. When it comes to the room temperature, crush the reetha, shikakai, and peels.
  • Strain it before using it as a regular shampoo.

Yet to do this every time, before you wash your hair, can put many off. And you cannot make a large batch and store the liquid in the fridge, as it will turn rancid. The good news is, you can freeze the mixture into ice trays and use it as and when required. Take out 2 to 3 cubes a few hours before you want to use it.

Wet hair, massage the shampoo on the scalp, and move towards your hair’s ends. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes and then rinse. This shampoo is suitable for all hair types and will not strip the natural oils from your hair.

Why it Works:

For hundreds of years, shikakai has been used for hair care in India. Shikakai used in the form of shampoo to clean hair and make it moisturized. In the hair masks, it contains a rich source of Vitamin A, C, D, E, and K.

The most efficient way to use reetha nut for hair is to use it as a hair rinse. With regular use, reetha makes the hair more substantial from the root, which reduces hair fall significantly.
